The Germantown Oktoberfest is a festival for the community, organized by the community. As part of our commitment to the Germantown community, every year we designate a local charity to receive a portion of the festival's proceeds.

Organizations wishing to be considered must hold 501(c)(3) status and serve the Germantown area. To apply, download the Charity application below and return it no later than March 31, 2008.

Our 2007 Charities were:

The Friends support library projects that encourage reading and life-long learning. They work to increase library access for emerging populations such as immigrants, older adults and teens. Oktoberfest’s contributions to The Friends will sustain the Germantown Library’s expanding ESOL programs and teen activities.

With this year’s contribution from Oktoberfest, BlackRock Center for the Arts will continue to bring arts and entertainment to Montgomery County’s widely diverse population, including providing programs to schools, low income housing areas, and mental health facilities.

The Clarksburg High School Athletic Booster Club will use Oktoberfest’s donation to support the endeavors of the athletic department, funding sports equipment and installing stadium lighting – a cost not covered by Montgomery County Public Schools.

Our 2006 Charity – Upper Montgomery Assistance Network

For 2006 our designated charity was the Upper Montgomery Assistance Network (UMAN).

The Upper Montgomery Assistance Network provides emergency financial assistance, education, and referral services to people in our community who are at risk of homelessness.

UMAN provides clients with a single point of entry for assistance, thus minimizing the possibility of abuse.

UMAN responds to requests by verifying information with landlords, utility companies and Montgomery County Emergency Services.

UMAN addresses the appropriateness of providing funds, and assists the client in prioritizing needs and accessing available resources. Grants for assistance are paid directly to landlords or utility companies.

Clients are also referred to financial counseling and to government and private agencies for long-term solutions to their problems.

UMAN provides all services in English and Spanish.

Our 2005 Charity – Stepping Stones Shelter

For 2005, our designated charity was the Stepping Stones Shelter.

Stepping Stones Shelter aims to heal homelessness by providing an opportunity for homeless families to regain their independence. By offering food and shelter in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, Stepping Stones Provides Hope for the Future, Strengthens Family Values and Enables Self-sufficiency, attempting to heal the the family's underlying problems.

Our 2004 Charity – The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington

For 2004, our designated charity was The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington.

Their formula is simple - provide youth with support, nurture their self-esteem during their formative years and instill values.  This unique formula is making a big difference in the lives of the youth they serve in Germantown.

Among the services provided by the Boys & Girls Club are morning and after school programs which include the arts, life skills and health, sports, fitness and recreation, and much more.

Please show your support for their work.
