1:15 – 2:15 PM DAVID BAYLES
Former leader of the band ‘The Escape,’ which headlined the community stage last year, Germantowner Dave Bayles steps out on his own to paint cinematic “songscapes” for the Oktoberfest faithful. Called the most literary songwriter of the DC area music scene, Bayles mixes computerized instrumentation with live band virtuosity, punctuated by eerie and mystical violin playing of his wife and soul mate Candace. Currently, Bayles is putting the finishing touches on his second CD, due out the end of this year.
2:45 – 3:30 PM J.W. BLAKE
JW Blake emerged onto the local scene via the ‘Ken Salaets & Friends” showcases held monthly at the local Borders bookstore. Blake likes to say that he plays original songs…written by someone else. And not just anyone else. He mines gems from the catalogs of such classic rock luminaries as Presley, Cash and the Beatles. In fact, his physical performance has been described as “Lennonesque,” reminiscent of the founder of the Fab Four in his early days in Liverpool and Hamburg. Blake and his band mates will have you singing and dancing straight out of the gate, IF you can keep up!
4:00 – 5:00 PM JULIAN BELL BAND
How does one go from shyly stepping forward to perform at a “Ken Salaets & Friend” open mic show, to headlining the BlackRock Center for the Arts Community Stage at the 27th annual Germantown Oktoberfest in just a few short months? It’s pretty easy if you’re Julian Bell. This rising talent will be winging his way from his college campus in Chicago to close this year’s showcase, performing a musical recipe that draws from influences like Hendrix, Mayer and others to produce a menu ranging from explosive percussive pop to expressive blues. Bell’s following is growing from Germantown to Chicago. Catch him while you can!
